From the Girl Who Brought You…Well Nothing Yet...

Hey! Let me start by introducing myself. First thing, and probably most pointless since you don’t know me personally – and probably never will – my name, which is Anna. Anyway, I’m one of those people who, when bored, watches movies! I’ve actually been like that for my entire life. Up until I was about fifteen, I was convinced that I was pretty much just frying my brain and killing every living cell inside it…turns out I was surprisingly wrong about that. I realized that when I watch movies, I don't just watch them, but I kind of analyze them. I mean yeah, there's the occasional time when I just plop down on the couch and intellectually die for a few hours, but mostly, I overwork my brain and end up watching movies in the strangest ways. (At least compared to most normal people I know...)

So as the time for looking at colleges came around, I had to think about what sort of programs I was looking for. You know, the fun stuff. And, while I was interested in English, I kept thinking back to film. (Weird). So I visited some schools, blah blah blah, and when it finally hit me that I could actually study film I was all like, "oh...duh." Basically, it was a eureka moment when I finally came to the conclusion that watching movies wasn’t just something I did to waste time, but it was, in fact, a legitamate interest of mine. So, there you have it, I had discovered a newfound interest!

Anyway, I got all cozy at school, eating lots of yummy microwavable meals and going to class (all of the stuff any normal college student would do) but my procrastination "skills" were still an issue. Every time I put something off, I would find myself watching a YouTube video, or ten, online. The whole concept of reviewing or simply talking about something to a camera – but really to, like, billions of people – just seemed so cool. So I started to think, maybe I should to that. But then I remembered the billions of people and thought, ehhhhhh or not…I kept thinking of some way that I could chat about stuff I’m interested in (like movies) while not having the entire world see my oh-so-wonderful face. (Ha. That was a joke.) Okay time flies…time flies some more…time - oh wait! That was when I said to myself, why not a blog? It was funny because I had already started one for a different subject but I had never even thought of blogging about movies. (Believe it or not, this realization came to me about five minutes ago.)

So that’s my story. At least the one of how I happened to start this little project. What’s the project? Well don’t hate me, anyone whose already done this because I’m sure there are many who have, but I’ve decided to take it upon myself to go through the alphabet and watch one movie per letter and, well, talk about them. I will be picking them at random so there will most likely be a few that I have already seen. I may hate some, I may love some, who knows, but I've made my rule and I must watch them no matter what. So lets see how this goes, shall we?

  1. Anna - you may or may not vaguely remember me as the editor on your mom's movie who interviewed you in the edit room a few years ago -- but I feel I know you intimately because of the many many hours I have spent watching video of various phases of your childhood. I am so charmed by the footage that I guess I run a close second to your mother, who dotes on every second. Her obsession of course makes my job as editor a little superfluous - she doesn't care for any of my clever cuts, she just wants it all to run untouched and as is...maybe you can step in there and help me out.
Anyway, I am very impressed with your writing. Your insights are clean and direct, and your style is particularly fun to read. There is none of the pretentiousness that we old people are usually forced to swallow from young writers and I find the way you bring yourself into the reader's experience to be simple and refreshing. Not self-conscious but friendly and interesting. You do seem a little perkier and more upbeat than the Anna I have watched growing up...not that I expected something dark, but neither did I expect you to be so cheerful! Just teasing, I loved it and will wait expectantly, along with the other billions, to see what you do with B.
